After what I am sure was some type of firmware or hardware failure, my replacement DIR-857 is up and running flawlessly. I'll give it five stars when the firmware is working better.
I upgraded to Firmware version 1.01 (released about 2 days before this review update) before setting up the router. The speed is incredible, but there are still some issues, which I'm sure will be addressed with future firmware updates:
1) The SD and USB port streams movies flawlessly. I wasn't able to get a USB hard drive (Western Digital) to work, but my 16 GB USB stick worked very well. I was able to access the USB stick remotely through the internet (non-LAN connection) using the Admin account. I was unsuccessful in creating another user account, so for now, the admin account must be used to log into the "YourIP:8181" port. My Windows 7 machine could not map the USB Drive or SD Card to upload any files. I had to do it a single file at a time through the http connection - Or just load it and then plug it into the router.
2) A reboot is needed after EVERY CHANGE to the firmware. You can make multiple changes, and then reboot, but if you get logged out automatically due to a "time out", all your changes are lost. I recommend making changes on each page, and then rebooting - Especially when you're reserving IP addresses for devices on your network.
I'm in the process of setting up QOS for various applications and have managed to get IP addressed reserved for all my devices. I'll update more as I play with it. Overall, very satisfied.

I really wanted this router to work, but it falls flat on it's face. It was going to replace my D-Link DIR-655, but it can't even hold an IP address from Verizon's FiOS service for 10 minutes before it shuts show, turns off, or becomes completely unresponsive. I spent about 4 hours trying to get some kind of life out of this router before I gave up and went back to the DIR-655. 95% of the time when I plugged it in, I just got an orange power light, or nothing at all. I don't see what the point of a power button on the back is, when it doesn't even seem to work. The reset button also seems to be pointless, as it never restarted the router or returned it to it's default settings. I plan to return it for another to see if maybe I just got a dud, as I really prefer D-Link's firmware to the one on the Netgear WNDR4500 - which is poorly laid out and confusing.
